Phantogram Announces New Album, Drop New Song

Phantogram has had a busy year, and looks to parlay a successful run in 2013 into the new year, announcing a new album today, Voices, which is slotted for a February 18 release through Republic. The synth-pop duo announced the new project alongside the release of their initial single off of it, "Fall In Love", which will get a 7" pressing in early 2014.  Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter must be more into even years, as Voices is the first full-length release since the pair's 2010 LP, Eyelid Moves. Check below for the stream of "Fall In Love" and scroll down for a full track-listing for Voices, available for pre-order now via iTunes.

[Video] Migos: "Hannah Montana"

At long last, one of the most ridiculous turn up jams of 2013 has a video. Migos' party-drug-anthem-disguised-as-a-Disney-character blew up throughout the summer, giving Atlanta hip-hop duo Migos their second certified hit after the similar-sounding "Versace" got the Drake treatment en route to topping the radio charts. The video is essentially what you could expect by listening to the song once, with the pair enjoying themselves in the presence of plenty of beautiful women. At first listen, I'll admit I thought this was the worst song I'd ever heard, a few months later, it's a pretty good time to turn up to. Check out the video below, complete with a brief snippet from the "Twerk Remix" version of the video.

[Trailer] Big Bad Wolves

[youtube id="2FEWN0C1Kdk" mode="normal" align="center"]

When a film is deemed Quentin Tarantino's "best film of the year," a lot of pressure, excitement, and anticipation swirls around its official release. The Israeli Big Bad Wolves ran the festival circuit this year, garnering acclaim and recognition along the way. With a US release date set for January 17, distributor Magnolia/Magnet has released a new trailer for the film.

Big Bad Wolves is a bit similar to this year's Prisoners. Three men's lives are intertwined when a father searching for revenge over his daughter's death crosses paths with an officer working outside of the boundaries of the law to find justice as they search for the prime suspect in the case. There are hints of brutality and suspense, two elements Tarantino himself is known for.

Big Bad Wolves was on my list at this year's Chicago International Film Festival, but unfortunately conflicted with other films and duties. Nevertheless, it's great to see the film find distribution. Until the film's released next month, we can just watch the trailer over and over again.

[Video] Mike Blabac: The Art Of Skateboarding Photography

Having recently released a new book entitled Mike Blabac: The Art of Skateboarding Photography, photographer Mike Blabac sat down with The Hundreds to talk skateboard photography. Mike has been behind the lens for quite a long time and has captured some of skateboarding's most iconic images, being featured in many magazines in the process. In the video, he gives us his creative insight, how he made the leap from film to digital photography, and what skateboard photography means to him. It's a great video and offers some valuable insight on how to take a great photo and being able to see someone reflect on their career.

[RH First Glance] Take Berlin: "Lionize"

Brooklyn and Berlin based duo Take Berlin released their first EP Lionize just this week, premiering their single "Sebastion." In winter of 2011, Guitarist Jesse Barnes snagged a cassette deck out of the trash in Brooklyn and a few months later met vocalist Yvonne Ambrée.  Barnes and Ambrée decided to use the tape deck to record all of the basic tracks on Lionize, using the vintage-y effects of tape recording to capture the enchanting fuzzy warmness of their sound.

"Sebastian," was influenced by Jose Saramago's novel, "The Year of The Death of Ricardo Reis," says Ambrée. "In the story, the protagonist is visited by a ghost... this magic-realism struck a chord in me as I began to consider the "ghosts" that visit us from time to time -- cultural ghosts as well as those from our own personal history." "Sebastian" was the last song to be recorded on the EP and is a simple yet timeless song, which is exactly what Barnes' wants. "The instrumentation so far has been as minimal as possible... we want to compose songs that stand up on their own and would be relevant 10 years from now."

[Trailer] Jupiter Ascending

[youtube id="ZoCyL_Pqzu8"]

Following the tepid response to last year's Cloud Atlas, the minds behind The Matrix are back with next year's sci-fi epic, Jupiter Ascending. Starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum, the film follows Kunis as Jupiter, a lowly janitor with big dreams. When an ex-military hunter, Caine (Tatum), appears and explains to Jupiter that she may be destined to be a queen (or something), she's suddenly thrown into a space epic involving a queen attempting to kill her because of this supposed destiny.

Jupiter Ascending sounds like nothing more than a modernized, sci-fi set Snow White allegory, complete with a huntsman, a jealous queen/witch, and an unassuming young woman destined for greatness. The film looks technically great, like a modern-day Blade Runner, but the hints at plot in the trailer made me groan over how simplistic it was. Of course, I'll withhold judgment until the film is released into theaters on July 25, 2014.
