Austin City Limits Festival 2014 hit Zilker Park in Austin, TX for the second weekend in a row this past weekend. I was able to hit the festival Friday with camera in hand. Check out some of my photos of CHVRCHES, Childish Gambino, St. Vincent, and Outkast below.

The cliche of "old man befriending a young boy in an at-first-hostile-but-eventually-warm-relationship/mentorship" is getting a bit too long in the tooth, especially when it comes to Bill Murray (re: The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Rushmore), but considering how well he does it, why not revisit the concept, right? That's exactly the stage that's being set in his upcoming film, St. Vincent.
The written/directorial debut by Theodore Melfi stars Murray as the titular alcoholic war veteran that watches over his neighbor's (Melissa McCarthy) young son, Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) while she's at work. While the relationship is frost at first, they eventually warm up to one another as Vincent begins to mentor Oliver, guiding him through the rough waters of puberty. I'm sure there'll be a major conflict in the film that finds Vincent learning something about himself the same way Oliver learns from him, as is standard of similarly-related films.
Hopefully, Murray's performance will be enough to make St. Vincent more than an indie film cliche when it hits theaters on October 24th.
[Songs of the Day] 3/6/14 (Feat. Mac DeMarco, Big K.R.I.T., St. Vincent & More)
Thursday brought about some new heat to warm our nasty March and leading things off we have a pair of tracks dedicated to another world. Along with the announcement of a "Game of Thrones" mixtape titled Catch The Throne, due out tomorrow came two tracks, Wale's "King Slayer" and Big Boi's "Mother of Dragons", stay posted for the rest of the tracklisting. Big K.R.I.T. continued his solid flow of new content by teaming up with Childish Major for another cinema-inspired track in "Wolf of Wall St.". Chuck Inglish teased his upcoming album with a very dope track with fellow Chicagoan Chance The Rapper for "Glam" which will wear out your repeat button in a hurry. A couple dance numbers got in the mix with Nick Nikon's "100 Deep" and a remix of M.I.A.'s "Y.A.L.A." anthem by Falcons. Mac DeMarco continued to prove why he's a rising star with his latest, "Brother" and St. Vincent once again showed she can do no wrong on "Del Rio". Columbia College's AEMMP Records released another track from their upcoming album, La Collection, produced entirely by C-Sick. The track, "All Love" features Taylor Bennett, NoNameGypsy & Nick Astro. Check everything out, streaming below.

[Video] St. Vincent Performs On 'The Colbert Report'
St. Vincent AKA Annie Clark just released her eccentric fourth full-length, self-titled record, St. Vincent. Clark is exploding out of herself, bringing her strange, yet dazzling sound to new levels.
St. Vincent performed some of her new material after a comical and informative interview with Stephen Colbert. Colbert asked about "getting" the new album, highlighted Clark's genius, and commented on her Einstein-style hair-do.

[Songs of the Day] 2/5/14 (Feat. St. Vincent, Zedd, Kelela & More)
Maybe it was the heavy snow across the Midwest, but there was a big surge of quality jams hitting the 'net today, and we have them all wrapped up together as part of today's "Songs of the Day". We got the preview of a couple albums, as Chicago band Empires teased their upcoming LP, Orphan, with "How Good Does It Feel", evoking a sort of post-alternative/punk feel while Detroit's Black Milk dropped "Cold Day", itself a preview of his upcoming project, Glitches In The Break EP. The ever-talented Kelela proved she will continue to be someone to pay attention to in 2014 with her single drop of the song "The High" while remnants of both Ratatat and White Flight got together in Peru for the ever-entrancing track "Two Colors" by the duo, performing under the moniker Abuela. IAMSU! continued to keep listeners at bay for his upcoming project with his latest single, "Yesterday" and St. Vincent followed up her creepy, still video for "Digital Witness" with her latest single, "Prince Johnny". Grammy-nominated DJ Zedd got a remix of his track "Clarity" from ASPDR+ while DJ OHSO xo put together a mix of Schoolboy Q to act as a sort of unofficial prelude to his upcoming Oxymoron release.
We also saw a healthy dose of music come out of the center of the map in Chicago today, with one of my favorite young rhymesayers in Muddagoose, who showed her handle of the spoken word "Little Darling" with John Walt while Closed Sessions dropped a collaboration from Alex Wiley and Mick Jenkins in their track, "Forever".
Track of the Day: Abuela: "True Colors"
Empires: “How Good Does It Feel?”
Black Milk: “Cold Day”

Alex Wiley & Mick Jenkins: “Forever”
Zedd: “Clarity” (ASPDR+ Remix)

St. Vincent: "Digital Witness"
St. Vincent had a bit of a quiet 2013 after making a splash a year earlier with her critically-acclaimed release, Strange Mercy, which got her signed to Republic Records. This past year was spent recording, and a couple tracks eeked out before the end of 2013 as a lead-up to the British songstress' upcoming, self-titled project due out on February 25, for which she will head off on several European tour dates, listed below. "Digital Witness" is a markedly upbeat track, with a sort of swinging, southern jazzy vibe to it. Different from what we've heard in the past from St. Vincent, "Digital Witness" definitely ups the ante for the upcoming full-length. Check out the track below.

St. Vincent: "Birth In Reverse"
St. Vincent has been quiet as of late, taking time to craft her latest release, a self-titled, 11-song compilation that she has been diligently working on in Dallas, TX. Upon announcing the LP today, Annie Clark also released a track from the upcoming project, titled "Birth in Reverse", which in itself is a thought-provoking heading for the song. The first release from St. Vincent in a minute, take some time to enjoy the ethereal "Birth in Reverse" below and expect more to roll out in the coming months as her February 25 release dates creep closer.
