[Mixtape] Sulaiman: "Hook Line & Thinker"

Sulaiman is back with a fresh new tape to help his friends and family back in the midwest brave through (hopefully) the last few terrible months of winter. A few months back I found myself sitting and talking to Suli, discussing the new rise of the scene in Chicago, the jump-off of artists like Vic Mensa and Chance The Rapper and what it all means. Sulaiman stressed the thought process of artists coming from Chicago, the need to keep the talent flowing to make it a scene that rivals the coasts at the end of the say. The Treated Crew member has been in and out of the foreground of hip-hop, always a thinker and a lyricist. With that in mind, Hook Line and Thinker may just be one of the most appropriate album title in recent memory, certainly making more sense than Rick Ross's Mastermind.

Produced by Doc Da MindBenda and featuring Dally Auston, Gzus Piece and Keenan Coke, the seven-song Hook Line and Thinker is a boom-bap-ish lyrical playground, with Sulaiman going off for bars. It's a refreshing project that will certainly make people once again take notice of Sulaiman. Check out the latest from Chicago, available for stream/download below.

Naledge: "Hole in My Soul" (Ft. Sulaiman)

Naledge is currently in the lab cooking up his latest release, Brain Power 2. As a sort of teaser to the upcoming project, he released this loosie track with fellow Chicago MC Sulaiman for this DJ Sean Mac-produced hors d'oeuvre. Naledge has been around the Chicago scene for a minute, since entering with Kidz In The Hall, as has Sulaiman and the duo make sure to remind everyone that the kids aren't the only ones making noise in the Windy City.

[Video] Vic Spencer & Sulaiman: "Baffle Board"

Vic Spencer & Sulaiman is the most dangerous duo in Chicago right now. These two feed off each other's desire to rip off the heads of all competition in sight and it can definitely be argued that their best material has come from their collaborative projects. "Baffle Board" is one of their latest leaks and a personal favorite with Suli and Vic first killing it over the O.C.'s "Let It Slide" instrumental and then completely switching up the vibe by plugging up Toro y Moi's "So Many Details" and going at it again. The visual, directed by Jake Gaza & Jimmy Regular for Point • and • Shoot, puts the two emcees on a roof smoking dope and spitting the first half of the track. Does this mean we're getting a part two soon? Who knows, but this should hold us over until their next release.

Na$im Williams: "61 Lilies" (feat. Sulaiman, Scheme & Doc)

I've had several discussions with Scheme concerning his current position in the local scene, we've both agreed that --although he's one of the most respected and talented emcees in the city--there's still a lot of people that overlook him and his skill-set. Thankfully, real recognize real and Na$im Williams got Scheme plus Sulaiman & Doc (who are also two dope cats from the city) for a banger entitled "61 Lilies". This hip-hop at its finest with two incredible verses over a bouncy instrumental provided by Na$im.

[Mixtape] Sulaiman x Vic Spencer: "We're Still Disappointed"

Sulaiman and Vic Spencer's chemistry inside the booth has to be one of the most organic I have ever heard. These two share the same vision when it comes to rapping and both never hold back punches, that's why their material together is so dope. Suli and Vic state "We're Still Disappointed" with all of these so-called "rappers" after giving them a piece of their mind back in 2010, apparently the wack never learn. Thankfully, the two emcees are still going to talk their shit in the best way possible; rhyming over eccentric beats delivering and endless supply of 1-2 punches. Peep below.
