[Trailer] They Came Together

First off, just to get it out of the way, hee hee they CAME together.

The new comedy from David Wain (Wet Hot American SummerThe State) looks to be about the greatest comedy singularity announced so far this year. The last time so many funny people were in the same movie was Movie 42. Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler star as the world's funniest, handsomest couple in the recordable universe recounting the true story of their relationship: a broad satire of romantic comedy-brand insanity. It's a funnier Don Jon, basically. Aside from the leads, the cast on this thing is insane. It's part Wet Hot American Summer reunion with Christopher Meloni, Ken Marino, and Michael Ian Black, and part collection of every funny character actor on TV working right now. Jason Mantzoukas, Ellie Kemper, Max Greenfield. My god. Michael Shannon's even in it. That man can do anything.

They Came Together releases simultaneously in theaters and VOD June 27th. It's astonishing to me that a big-ticket comedy like this is going to be watchable at home the same day as release. This kind of VOD approach to comedy is so great for pictures like this, where there's less of a need for the spectacle of going to the theater. Just makes me happy. SOME parts of the movie industry aren't so wooden and anti-consumer.
