Alamo Drafthouse Selects Boyhood as Its Next Drafthouse Recommends Film

We're more than halfway through 2014, yet one of the first films I caught this year, Richard Linklater's Boyhood at the Sundance Film Festival, still holds as one of my favorite films of the year. Shot over a period of 12 years, the film literally covers main character Mason's growth from a young boy to young adult, covering themes like father/son dynamics, masculinity, and the typical pangs of becoming the person you'll become. Linklater's known for his narrative and cinematic quirks (especially in Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly), but Boyhood always represented his magnum opus, and it certainly delivers.

To commemorate Boyhood's release into theaters on July 18th, Alamo Drafthouse has selected the film as part of its "Drafthouse Recommends" program, complete with a special introduction by Alamo Drafthouse CEO and Founder Tim League, a special themed food and drink menu for Alamo Drafthouse theaters, and a special "Don't Talk" PSA video from director Richard Linklater himself. You can see the aforementioned special items below. I highly recommend Boyhood to anybody that loves films. If you're lucky enough to live near an Alamo Drafthouse, you can purchase tickets to Boyhood here.

Emily Ratajkowski for GQ July 2014

Emily Ratajkowski Covers GQ's July 2014 Issue

It's officially summer, so it's only natural that Emily Ratajkowski graces the cover of GQ yet again. Ever since EmRata appeared in Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" video, her stock has steadily soared, perhaps even matching fellow model Kate Upton's popularity. With a role in David Fincher's upcoming Gone Girl this October, it's only a matter of time before Ratajkowski becomes an international sex icon... if she wasn't already considered one. Considering EmRata's popularity on Ruby Hornet in the past, it's only fitting that we spotlight her latest spread in GQ with these photos shot by Michael Thompson. Honestly, what makes a summer photo spread possess more of a "summer" vibe than a girl in a bikini covered in dirt and mud?

Check out GQ's latest photos and a behind the scenes video with EmRata below.

[Video] Alexis Neiers Talks Burglary, Addiction, and Sobriety

With the production of Sofia Coppola’s 2013 film The Bling Ring, the spotlight shone down incessantly upon “The Bling Ring” themselves, the group of status-obsessed teenagers that have traced celebrities’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes back in 2010. One of the original Bling Ring members, Alexis Neiers, went through life post-robbery in a very publicized manner; the press had documented her experiences in court, which eventually lead up to her no contest plea in robbing the home of Orlando Bloom, serving 30 days out of a 180-day sentence, and being granted with the reality TV show Pretty Wild.

While Pretty Wild set out to be a show documenting the life of a seemingly glamorous LA party girl, whose mom is a former Playboy Playmate and father was the director of photography on Friends, Pretty Wild became less about the LA party scene and more about following Neiers on her forthcoming path to jail. Jail-time, in the meanwhile, clouded other issues of hers that were kept fairly hush-hush in the public eye, predominantly her abuse of heroine, crack, meth, and painkillers. Check out the VICE Profiles episode on Alexis Neiers below, which goes into depth on her criminal involvement with The Bling Ring, her battles with addiction, and where she’s at today as a sober mother.

Seth Rogen and Snoop Dogg on GGN

[Video] Seth Rogen and Snoop Dogg Talk Weed

Everybody who's seen Pineapple Express remembers the mythical cross joint, a quadrupled-ending joint that brings in twice the weed with every pull. It all seemed like movie magic, right? Apparently not, as Seth Rogen joined Snoop Dogg on the rapper's GGN program to discuss the origins of the cross joint, his career, and more. They also talk about Rogen's latest film, Neighbors, which I've already referred to as the funniest film of the year, his upcoming comedy The Interview with James Franco, and the R-rated CGI-animated comedy, Sausage Party.

Of course, it wouldn't be an installment of GGN without an insane amount of weed being smoked and a weather lady upping the sex factor bogged down by Rogen and Snoop, right? One of my personal highlights from the episode is the etymological history of the term "chronic" and where it came from. You can just see the intrigue in Rogen's eyes as Snoop elaborates on hydroponic marijuana.

[Video] Lili K. and Peter CottonTale: "One Mo' Time" Live at Truth Studios

Lili K. and Peter CottonTale linked up in Truth Studios in LA earlier this year to shoot a live performance of “One Mo’ Time” for Acoustic Sessions. Peter’s skills on the keys, best demonstrated while touring for Chance the Rapper’s Social Experiment Tour, combined with Lili K’s smooth, jazzy voice come through with a tune perfect for a rainy day.

The live performance is sultry and surprising. Lili K’s modest apparel masks the sensuality that takes over right as she begins to sing. The innocent affection the song introduces calms similarly to a lullaby, but as “One Mo’ Time” resumes, the desire Lili croons about takes a bolder curve. The synthesis of her vocals with Peter’s keyboard playing quickly transitions the vibe from chaste and playful to stimulating passionate sexy-eyes. This is a performance where Peter’s rabbit ears are off, so we know the song means business.

"One Mo' Time" is the first official song off of Lili K. and Peter CottonTale's next project expected to be released later this year. The live showing of “One Mo’ Time” is a feel-good session, extending the tranquility it provokes far beyond LA and Truth Studios. Give “One Mo’ Time” your time and check it out in the video down below.

Still from Space Jam

[Video] Space Jam Live-Read in Los Angeles

Space Jam is the greatest film ever made. If you disagree, you're not a connoisseur of life's finer things. With that said, there's been a whirlwind of Space Jam news recently, from the fake 30 for 30 documentary of the film to the very false rumors of a sequel starring LeBron James. Now, a video has come out from Funny or Die that captures the essence of the film with some contemporary actors and NBA players.

Last month, a live table read of the film's script was held in Los Angeles, and Funny or Die was present to shoot video of the event. The read was full of who's who in comedy right now, such as The League's Nick Kroll and Paul Scheer, Neighbors' Jerrod CarmichaelFamily Guy's Seth Green, Boy Meets World's Danielle Fishel, and A Million Ways to Die in the West's Ralph Garman. Joining them were Los Angeles Clippers players DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin reading for Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan, respectively.

Film still from Neighbors

[Video] Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, and Lisa Kudrow Talk Condoms in Neighbors Clip

At this year's SXSW, I made a ballsy proclamation by calling Neighbors the "Comedy of the Year," despite it only being March and the SXSW cut still being a rough one that needed editing. The comedic chemistry between Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids) was completely surprising, and Zac Efron's ability to actually be hilarious are some of the reasons why Neighbors was one of my favorite films from SXSW. With the film not receiving a theatrical release until next month, you'll just have to take my word for it...

...or watch this new, MTV exclusive clip from the film featuring the aforementioned Byrne and Rogen alongside a bit role from Lisa Kudrow (Friends). If the clip isn't enough, you can check out the film's first trailer that released last September, as well as read my exclusive SXSW interviews with Ike Barinholtz and Jerrod CarmichaelNeighbors will be in theaters on May 9th.

Film still of Leonardo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

[Video] New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Clip Shows Glimpse of Splinter

Everything's falling into place for Jonathan Liebesman's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Last week, the film's first promotional posters were revealed that highlighted each turtles' weapons. Then, of course, there was the trailer that revealed the turtles' nostrils and Megan Fox looking very... foxy, for once. Now, the hype train continues as the first TV spot for the film was shown last night. While it recycles some of the same footage found in the trailer, including the attempt at comedy in the trailer's final seconds, it does feature some new scenes, including a glimpse at the turtles' master, Splinter.

This super short clip heightened my expectations for the film, especially since it showcased some more action scenes that I felt the trailer sorely lacked. With the announcement of Johnny Knoxville voicing Leonardo, I'm hesitant to get excited for the rest of the cast. We'll see how everything turns out come August!
