The White Stripes

The White Stripes are a wrap. Meg and Jack White posted a statement on the Third Man Records website yesterday saying that the band has officially broken up due to “a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.”  The White Stripes last LP, Icky Thump, was released in 2007, and since then Jack White has released albums with The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and Wanda Jackson.  Jack White recently told Vanity Fair that he hoped to get back in the studio with Meg, but alas, it is not to be.  Fans of the White Stripes can still look forward to live releases as well as rarities coming via Third Man Records, but there will not be anymore new music.

The band ended their statement announcement by saying, “The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”
