Lollapalooza has made two announcements prior to today. First they announced the headlining artists and supporting bands. Then they announced they were expanding. Today they announced the schedule. Here are some things I noticed.
*The Black Keys play Friday from 6:00-7:15. They’ve had this time slot pretty much every year… Give them a headlining spot already! They’re better live than any act.
*Chicago Hip Hop is strong on Friday with BBU and Kidz In The Hall playing Perry’s Stage. Also performing Friday right after KITH is J. Cole. Perry’s Stage = Hip Hop stage.
*Fans will be forced to choose between Lady Gaga and The Strokes on Friday, with each playing the 8:30-10:00 slot…
*B.o.B. had the number one album in the country and what does he win…. an 11:30 AM showtime on Friday. Welcome to Lolla, please exit stage left.
*Hip Hop is absent from the bill Saturday, which includes dual headlining performances from Greenday and Phoenix.
*The Verve Pipe still make music? Apparently so as they have a Saturday set early afternoon, and I doubt they’ll just play “Freshmen” for an hour.
*F**k Buttons… I got nothing, just like writing that one.
*Potheads everywhere… Lance Herbstrong goes on 11:30 AM on Saturday. I don’t know who that is, but assume he has something to do with weed.
*Sunday is a strong day for Chicago DJs. Felix Da Houscat, Flosstradamus and more play Perry’s Stage.
*Soundgarden, which was the 7th grade me’s ying to Greenday’s yang will play the same stage and same time as Greenday, just a day later. They end the festival with Arcade Fire doing the other closing set.
*Cypress Hill, the butt of a lot of jokes lately, close out the ADIDAS stage as they go on at 7PM after Erykah Badu.
*Expect something crazy from MGMT. I read an article about them a few weeks ago, they’re nuts. They play Sunday…
