Another trailer has landed for Wally Pfister’s next sci-fi film, Transcendence. In case you missed the first trailer, the Johnny Depp-starring film features the wacky actor as a premier researcher of Artificial Intelligence. When detractors opposing his research in advancing the technology attempt to kill him and sabotage his work, his wife (Rebecca Hall) and best friend (Paul Bettany) save his life by uploading his mind into his most profound invention: a machine that combines all of mankind’s intelligence with the ability to understand and express human emotions. However, his transcendence into this new being changes him as his newfound thirst for hunger and power threaten everything he worked towards.
Transcendence is looking really good. The film looks like it reins Depp in from his normally outrageous characters, which is something I’ve always wanted to see more of from the actor. Transcendence will be Pfister’s directorial debut, but won’t be his first Hollywood experience; he’s worked as cinematographer on the majority of Christopher Nolan’s most recent films, winning an Oscar for Inception.
April 17th is when the film will be in theaters.
