I mostly know Takeshi Kitano as the main antagonist of the Japanese action films, Battle Royale and Battle Royale II: Requiem. However, Kitano has made a name for himself post-Battle Royale with a number of films he’s directed. Beyond Outrage is the first sequel to 2010’s Outrage, a Yakuza film examining the conflict between organized crime and police forces. Beyond Outrage revisits Kitano’s character, Otomo, the former boss of a crime family no longer in play. When an anti-gang cop attempts to incite war between two feuding Yakuza families, Otomo is pulled back in to take revenge on one of the families.
Beyond Outrage will be available on VOD on November 28th with a theatrical release on January 3, 2014. What better way to celebrate the new year than a film about the Yakuza, right?
