Deliver Us From Evil is too much. I already can’t handle horror films, but when they’re based on true stories, they become that much more unapproachable. This isn’t criticism of the films themselves; rather, it’s a testament to my inability to handle scary stuff. Very rarely does a horror film catch my interest, but when it happens, it sticks. Deliver Us From Evil may be the latest exception.
Serving as Jerry Bruckheimer’s first produced horror film (seriously), Deliver Us From Evil is based on the true stories of New York police officer Ralph Sarchie he experienced during his career. Eric Bana (Munich) stars as Sarchie, who teamed up with a priest (Edgar Ramirez) to investigate the supernatural cases the officer came across. Olivia Munn (Magic Mike) also appears in the film as Sarchie’s wife.
During a panel at WonderCon, Bana and Munn shared some of their experiences preparing for their roles. Apparently, the duo watched real-life exorcism videos Sarchie shot that frightened the actors beyond belief. Just thinking about exorcisms sends chills up your spine, doesn’t it? Deliver Us From Evil will be in theaters on July 2nd.
