The tagline for David Ayer’s (Training DayEnd of WatchSabotage) next film, Fury, reads “War never ends quietly.” Yet, this first trailer for the film has a quiet, understated tone to it, even as the action on-screen ramps up to feature tank attacks. Admittedly, the World War II setting is getting tired and overused, especially when with Brad Pitt’s role in Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglourious Basterds still fresh on most movie audience’s minds. For better or worse, Pitt’s Wardaddy character in Fury has the same candor and characterization as Inglourious Basterds‘ Lieutenant Aldo. However, I have immense faith in Ayer’s talents to make Fury something special.

As seen in the trailer, Wardaddy is an army sergeant in charge of a five-man crew during the Allies’ final push in Germany in 1945. Tasked with a mission that brings Wardaddy and his crew (which includesCesar Chavez‘ Michael Peña, The Walking Dead‘s Jon Bernthal, Charlie Countryman‘s Shia LaBeouf, and Noah‘s Logan Lerman) deep into enemy territory, they face a 300-to-5 disadvantage, but must do everything they can to help the Allies win the war.

Knowing Ayer’s pedigree for great films (Sabotage notwithstanding), Fury should dissuade audiences who have grown wary of WWII films when it hits theaters on November 14th. You can read the film’s official synopsis below, as well as take a look at its first promotional poster.

April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
