I hate horror films with a passion, but have been trying to be more open-minded in regards to them lately. After all, the horror genre is one of the most popular genres in film. Haunter appears to be a by-the-books murder mystery/horror story starring Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) and directed by Vincenzo Natali (Splice).
Lisa (Breslin) is stuck in a monotonous routine.. that is until she somehow breaks from the trance and discovers something’s awry. As is typical of the genre, the revelation involves mysterious individuals, murder, supernatural scenarios, and lots of tension and suspense. Will Haunter buck the trend of stereotypical horror films? Probably not, especially after it received a frosty reception at SXSW in March, but it should appease some horror film fans out there.
Haunter will be released in theaters and on VOD October 18th.
