We’ve all seen the typical “party” movies full of drugs, alcohol, sex, and shenanigans, but they all kind of run together. Outside of a few highlights (Project X, Superbad), they all follow a generic, cliche formula established by classic films like National Lampoon. In short, party movies have been pretty lacking and stale as of late. However, a remedy of sorts has been approached to change the genre up, like mixing other conventions up, like This is the End‘s supernatural/apocalyptic twist.
+1 falls in line with a party movie with an interesting twist. Written/directed by Dennis Iliadis (The Last House on the Left), +1 focuses on a small group of friends who fall into a time travel situation where they’re able to essentially rewind events to properly play them out. However, rewinding time leaves paradoxes intact, such as seeing past time clones, creating a scenario similar to Timecrimes (Los Cronoscrimenes) and Primer.
