Robocop is back and with a vengeance! When I first heard about the Robocop reboot, I was a little worried. Hollywood remakes/reboots will never end, and will technology is considerably more advanced, the worry of a financially-driven focus to reboot a classic film always brings worry to those enamored with old franchises. As the concept art and casting news began to trickle out, I saw my worries lessen little by little, but I still kept my defenses up. After all, this is Robocop we’re talking about.

…and then the first official trailer for the film was released. Samuel L. Jackson with a combover? Michael Keaton as the CEO of OmniCorp? Gary Oldman?! Yes yes yes. The trailer gives some exposition on who and what Robocop is, serving as both a primer for newcomers to the franchise and some easter eggs to old fans. The general tone of the footage highlights the action, but there are some philosophical/existential undertones playing through the trailer, as well. My only gripe? Robocop’s exposed right hand. Is that meant to better humanize the character? Why can’t he have a Mega Buster like Mega Man? All I know is that I want to know more, and fast.

Unfortunately, Robocop won’t be in theaters until February 2014. Luckily, it’ll be out in time for Valentine’s Day. Are there any lovely ladies out there that want to spend a romantic evening watching cyborgs fight crime for justice?
