Vic Mensa

“Eat emcees like Tyrannosaurs Rex’s, y’all just breakfast, now guess who the best is.”

If Blu is our favorite emcee that does not use a space bar, Vic Mensa is without a doubt our favorite emcee without a high school diploma.  The dude is an emcee’s emcee, and I can only think that he’s got an old soul the way he channels a brand of Hip Hop made almost before his time.  I see a lot of the younger kids at shows and events wearing styles and designs made popular (and sometimes representing the iconography) by groups such as De La Soul and ATCQ.  When you throw the records on, it’s like they’ve never heard of’em.  Vic Mensa is a break from all that, as he lives, sleeps, and eats Hip Hop.  This record, “Run”, comes right from the Ghostface, vaults and is actually something Vic gave me for my “On Deck” Mixtape (also featuring Naledge, Mikkey Halsted, ADaD, Rhymefest, Scheme).  That full project will be coming out in 2011, with all sorts of bells and whistles… While we wait, dig on Vic Mensa’s “Run”.
