Ghost Poet

Ghostpoet is an artist we have been following since last fall, after the South London resident signed to Brownswood Recordings.  His recently released label debut, Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam, draws heavily on his life, and the struggles of the young working-class.  It’s much deeper than money issues though, as Ghostpoet speaks directly to young adults caught between the 9-5 desk or the arts studio.

“There’s been a fire and hunger in my belly to create music for as long as I can remember but never made any positive strides to get anything out there,” Ghostpoet said to RubyHornet. “You get to a point in your life where it’s either sink into the 9-5 existence, or swim on to that something in the horizon that looks like the life you’ve been seeking… I chose to swim as hard as I could!”

That theme is on centerstage on the album’s second single “Survive It”.  For the video, directed by UNKNOWN, Ghostpoet carries a mug through London’s parks and alleys, half asleep, and carrying a mug of tea.  The song’s production follows his shuffling pace, as Ghostpoet reflects on his life through descriptive statements and at times obscure metaphors and similes such as “she’s long gone like Rocky Balboa and Adrian, tear drops while you sip on the Evian.”
