Lupe Fiasco

Lupe Fiasco was a guest on MTV RapFixLive yesterday, joining Sway to speak about his new album and the issues tackled thus far in the music.  The interview got very deep and emotional after Sway showed Lupe a clip from the Chicago episode of MTV’s now defunct series, “My Block”.  The segment was done 6 years ago, when a young Lupe was just releasing his first album, Food & Liquor.  After watching the clip, Lupe broke down in tears, saying that watching the segment was like seeing ghosts because some of the people in the clip are deceased, while others are now in jail.  The video made Lupe feel hopeless because while he’s grown tremendously with his music, his neighborhood remains as impoverished and violent as when he started.  Lupe’s sincerity comes through here, and it’s good see an artist care so much about their community and bettering the world. It also reinforces what Lupe said during his interview with Jenny Boom Boom a few days ago.  Watch the clip below.
