Earlier today, Nintendo announced the Nintendo 2DS, an alternative to the current 3DS. For $129, consumers can purchase what is essentially an un-foldable 3DS with all of the same tech specs minus the 3D component. Considering that the 2DS is a “handheld,” its bulky size kind of doesn’t help the portability factor of the system. However, Nintendo’s known for milking the cash cow, and with the 3DS being the best-selling handheld on the market right now, it makes sense for them to offer an alternative to the 3DS, especially if the “3D gimmick” has been seen as nothing more than an optional component.

The Nintendo 2DS will be in stores this October across North America.
