Tonight, July 31st, from 7-11pm, Chicago’s girl-gang of videographers is celebrating their official leap into the world of print journalism. After already having several issues published and circulated around the web, VRLX Mag’s eighth issue, the summer edition, will be their first-ever printed edition. It will honor the magazine’s one-year anniversary, and serve as a comprehensive step forward by the ever-so innovative female artists.
Formerly known as Young Wonder, Sofia Kerpan, Danielle Alston and Eva Dubovoy have been in the process of establishing Verluxe from square one since December of 2012. Subsequent to a year and a half of growth, the ladies have firmly marked their place in Chicago’s world of entertainment as a production company and lifestyle brand. As such, they have been involved in the production and direction of music videos for artists based both in and out of Chicago, in photography, writing, and design, and have been collaborating with artists including Vic Mensa, Chance the Rapper, Twista, Isaiah Rashad, and ScHoolboy Q.
The Magazine’s release party will be held on the first floor of LPZ Studios, located at 459 Milwaukee. Attendees will buy able to buy copies of the publication, listen to the tunes of A Billion Young, check out and purchase artwork from exhibits by Nikko and Jeremy Steffen, eat ice cream, and kick it with the curators. This event acknowledges a very memorable time for Verluxe, regarding their personal growth as artists, and perhaps more importantly, as female artists in a heavily male-dominated industry- all whilst in the windiest of cities. Come out tonight to see how far they’ve come, and check out further event details in the flyer below.
