Wale

Pseduo Hip Hoppers with A&R titles…

Legend has it that Wale penned a song that served as his manifesto of sorts, summarizing all of his goals in the music business.  Legend also has it that it would become the song that he and his management team would play during meetings.  Legend is all confirmed loudly by Dan of Elitaste below, which you can read… Made in 2007, the song is really clever to me and quite poignant.  It’s a very interesting take on the ‘pitch’, and to me, demonstrates why Wale was signed.  You can check it out below.  Props to Elitaste.

Now with music out of the way, Wale has also declared on his Twitter page that he’ll be working for ESPN in the future.  Before paying homage to his favorite ESPN anchor, he instructed Trey Wingo to move over, as he would be joining the network by next year.  G-dspeed, Wale… G-dspeed.

“So in the spring of 2007, I suggested to Wale that he create an audio manifesto of what he wanted to accomplish as an artist once he signed. DC producer Osinachi, the maestro behind “Nike Boots” who is now part of Rodney Jerkins’ team, blessed Wale with the beat for “The Meeting” and Wale, how do you say, “went in.” This became the first track we played in label meetings and for a time, it was discussed that this would be the intro for Attention Deficit. In retrospect, I think Wale stayed true to the goals set forth in “The Meeting” and you can still hear the hunger in his voice. So 2.5 years later, this track is emancipated. And make sure you cop Attention Deficit if you haven’t done so already.”
