I haven’t loved everything the Walkmen have done. At times I think they play out a formula, but when that formula works, dear god does it work. “The Rat” was one of my top 10 songs of the last decade and “Angela Surf City” is a contender for best of the year as well. The Walkmen do the Crescendo better than anybody with Hamilton Leithauser’s soaring vocal. “Angela Surf City” does just that, carrying an incredible kinetic energy, ripping through the speakers.
