Despite facing three new wide releases this weekend, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was able to top the box office for the second weekend in a row with $36m. The Purge: Anarchy open to a solid $28m intake for second place. The unofficial Cars spin-off, Planes: Fire and Rescue, rounded out the top three with an $18m revenue. The Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz comedy Sex Tape severely underperformed, only netting $15m.
