A week after flirting with the top spot, Disney’s Frozen has overtaken The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in the weekend box office, making $31.6m. Catching Fire fell to second place with an even $27m. It’s no secret that there’s a special power about animated children’s films that will always overtake the box office. The allure over kids is real in Hollywood. Last weekend’s new release, Out of the Furnace, follows in third place with $5.3m. Expect these standings to be all mixed up this weekend with the release of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
