Holiday weekends are typically box office goldmines as families love spending time together at the theater. Christmas 2013 was no exception, with seven films opening last week. However, fantasy prevailed as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug topped the box office with $29.8m. The week’s biggest new release, The Wolf of Wall Street, opened in the fifth spot with a solid $18.5m. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and 47 Ronin opened in 7th and 9th places, respectively.
