Another week of weak Netflix updates, friends and family. However, there are two bright spots in the midst of mediocre additions: Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain and Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing. Since I haven’t seen Much Ado About Nothing yet, I’m tailoring my focus directly on Pain & Gain. Loosely (very loosely) based on a true story, Pain & Gain stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie as a trio of bodybuilders that kidnapped and stole a large sum of money from a fellow gym-goer. It’s like the standard Hollywood blockbuster you expect from Bay, complete with ridiculous explosions, yet it’s somewhat grounded and realistic… somewhat.
