I have posted, written, and told anyone that will listen about the skills of Chicago’s YP and the goodness of our forthcoming collaborative mixtape, No Sleep.  YP is at the top of his game, and it is witness in each track on the project.  When we were going through the music and deciding which songs to send out, one that I kept coming back to was “Pray For ‘Em”, a more serious and reflective song centering on the violence and destruction that it causes.  The song’s message is further emphasized by Kamilah Sumner, who again turns in a gem of a performance on the song’s hook.

YP describes the song best as “a dedication to all the senseless violence that’s taken a toll on not only the city of Chicago, but the entire nation.  The song was triggered by the tragedy that happened to Derrion Albert. I felt as though the subjects that haunt us now needed to be heard.  I felt Kamilah was perfect for the record.  She sings with such passion and emotion that I knew she would be able to capture the message I was trying to send.  RIP to all who have lost their lives, and pray for those who have lost loved ones.”

You can download the song below.  You can also catch YP as a featured performer at Digital Freshness this Saturday at Beauty Bar.  G.O.O.D. Music’s CyHi Da Prynce is our special guest, as well as DJ’s VIPJ, RTC, Metrognome, Vic Lloyd, and Hollywood Holt.

YP x DJ RTC: No Sleep coming soon.
