Digital Freshness Kicks off 2nite w/Rhymefest!

Digital Freshness

Digital Freshness. Digital Freshness. Digital Freshness. That is the name of our new weekly Thursday at The Shrine (2109 S. Wabash). The goal of the night is to bring the aesthetics and feel of RubyHornet offline and into the venue. Each week we will bring you new music and performances from artists that have the Internets going nuts, and provide you with the same style and substance that fills the pages of RubyHornet.com. If you liked our Dimes and Dozens parties, then you'll love Digital Freshness.

We start things properly tonight with the official release party for Rhymefest's sophomore LP El Che. Rhymefest will be on hand to introduce the album, as well as perform a set featuring new music and classic hits. The doors open at 9PM with music from RubyHornet's own DJ RTC.

See you there.

Jay-Z: "Ultra" featuring Swizz Beats

Jay-Z

Swizz Beats is the only guy that can make this type of beat. I remember a few years ago when his sound was all the rage, and there were a lot of imitators but only the Swizzy joints really stand the test of time. Here he goes Michelob on us with "Ultra" (licensing dollars for the win). This one is all tagged up and being released by The Evil Empire, it's said that it maybe part of Diddy's forthcoming album. Sounds pretty solid to me... No, sounds "Ultra". In a related note, anyone remember Fleer Ultra baseball/basketball cards? Now those were dope!

NYT Appends M.I.A. Article

M.I.A.

Earlier this week we told you about M.I.A.'s issues with the New York Times. Well, the editor has made a note about the article in some attempt to make ease the tensions. NYT posted:

"The cover article in The Times Magazine on Sunday profiled the singer and political activist M.I.A. While discussing her efforts to draw attention to the civil war in her home country, Sri Lanka, she was quoted as saying: 'I wasn't trying to be like Bono. He's not from Africa-- I'm from there. I'm tired of pop stars who say, 'Give peace a chance.' I'd rather say, 'Give war a chance.' The whole point of going to the Grammys was to say, 'Hey, 50,000 people are gonna die next month, and here's your opportunity to help.' And no one did.'

While M.I.A. did make those remarks, she did not make the entire statement at the same point in the interview, or in the order in which it was presented. The part that begins, 'The whole point of going to the Grammys,' up to the end of the quotation, actually came first. The part that begins, 'I wasn't trying to be like Bono,' and ends, 'Give war a chance,' came later in the same interview. The article should have made clear that the two quotations came from different parts of the interview."

Catch up on what went down here.
