Kendrick Lamar: “Hol Up” – Being the 4th leak from his upcoming LP, Lamar is batting an exquisite 1.000 virtually outdoing himself with each release. The scholarly wordplay that is emitting from from Kendrick’s mouth is showcased again on this track, as K dot proves he is coming for that #1 spot no matter what. Bump this while brushing your teeth in the AM and wait patiently as your head begins to nod uncontrollably at about 30 seconds into the track. Section80

Star Slinger: “Slow ‘N’ Wet” – The vast amount of Star Slinger’s catalog should be bumped in situations involving hot weather, beaches and probably Coronas. However, the crispy yet solemn, “Slow ‘N’ Wet” meshes perfectly with this weeks COTM and the dreaded rainy weather that decided to hover over Chicago today.

Daz (Prod. by Statik Selektah) – Off of the Lord Giveth and Lord Taketh Away EP recorded in 24 hours, Gibbs smoothly attacks this unusually patient and soft Statik Selektah beat. Adding West Coast legend Daz, rock this during your lunch break while brainstorming the different ways you can quit your job and attain that real Rap Money.

Producer K-Kruz and inrstumentalist Jason Hunt whipped up a very Solid EP containing an organic, innovative mix of soul/indie/phsych rock. Brilliant. Just listen as you type up that spreadsheet and when it seems to finish itself, ask Their Ocean why.

I can safely say that The Weeknd & Frank Ocean have got me appreciating R&B in a way I haven’t before. It may be the fact I’m getting older, but the lo-fi, riding production these artists utilize surely doesn’t hurt.
