[Update: Originally, I wrote that Cheap Thrills would be available on VOD in February. However, this was an error and has been removed. I apologize for the confusion.]
Another SXSW film premiere, Cheap Thrills, has found distribution through Drafthouse Films. The dark-comedy, directed by E.L. Katz, stars Pat Healy (The Innkeepers) as the down on his luck, Craig. After being laid off from his mechanic job and facing eviction, he spends one evening at a bar where he reunites with an old high school friend, Vince (Ethan Embry). A rich couple (played by Anchorman‘s David Koechner and The Innkeepers‘ Sara Paxton) takes note of the two and begins daring them to do various things for money. However, as the night progresses, the dares become more vicious as the couple feed on the friends’ desperation.
Cheap Thrills looks amazing, and I’ve been kicking myself for missing it at both SXSW and Chicago International Film Festival. However, all can be redeemed when the film is released in theaters on March 21, 2014. For now, enjoy the trailer and let us know what you think about it!
