The Beastie Boys had a new LP all set and ready to drop in September of 2009 when MCA revealed that he had cancer. All tour dates were scrapped and the album was put on hold to ensure that MCA could receive the proper treatment and beat the disease. The Beasties have been very quiet since about the shelved Hot Sauce Committee Part 1, as well as MCA’s health. The silence is breaking, as The Beastie Boys announced via their website that while the completed album still won’t see the light of day, they will be releasing Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 in the spring of 2011. For redundancy’s sake, they said:
“ALTHOUGH WE REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT “HOT SAUCE COMMITTEE PART 1” WILL CONTINUE TO BE DELAYED INDEFINITELY, “HOT SAUCE COMMITTEE PART 2″ WILL BE RELEASED ON TIME AS ORIGINALLY PLANNED IN SPRING OF 2011.”
That’s great news, and I’m definitely looking forward to it.
