Freddie Gibbs will touch down in the windy city on Saturday for his performance at Bottom Lounge as part of the Return of 4eva tour (also w/Big K.R.I.T., Smoke Dza, and more). We’ve been excited about the show all week, and have talked to both K.R.I.T. (read our interview with Big K.R.I.T.) and Gibbs leading up to Saturday night’s concert. During my interview with Freddie, he told me about his forthcoming mixtape, Cold Day In Hell, and again hinted at a big announcement coming real soon. The Gary, Indiana born emcee is proving doubters wrong, which reflects in the title and tone of his new project. He told me yesterday,
“I’m about to hit some people with some big news. I’m about to do something that some people thought would never happen when I got dropped from Interscope. All the management, all the A&R people turned their back on me, it was a wrap for me. All the lawyers said it was a wrap for me, and I wouldn’t get to this point that I’m at right now. That’s what I meant by Cold Day In Hell, and I’m about to drop the new news on them and all of that s**t. It’s about to go down. I got some surprises on this Cold Day In Hell s**t. This is a lot of s**t that people thought would never happen. A lot of people thought I’d never be at this point, they wrote me off. This is going to be a slap in the face… Cold Day In Hell is going to be a lot of dissing. A lot of people’s feelings are going to be hurt. You can bet that.”
