This week at Rubyhornet we’ve been none stop on the go. From The Perfect Attendance showcase in the dirty south to the announcement of our 4th Dimes & Dozens, finding time to chill out has become almost impossible. But no worries, we still found time to bring you this week’s Re-Up jam-packed with everything you need to know. So let’s get into it…
First up, we are proud to announce our 4th Dimes & Dozens with our partners in crime, dubFrequency. Every month we work hard to bring a new and rising artist to the CHI. This months’ shining star is no other than NYC’s Emilio Rojas who was just featured in 10.Deep’s new fall ’09 video. Joining Emilio is our hometown crew BBU who will be making their first RH party appearance. Hosted by Mic Terror, this night of mayhem will also included sets by DJ RTC and Vic Lloyd. This event is going down September 19th at our usual spot, the Lava Lounge from 10PM-3AM, $5 at the door. Click here to read the whole post and be on the look out for special content and contest coming up next week. Always trying to have a little something for everyone, in-house style expert Ms. Hoodie Couture has come across the perfect fusion of fashion and extreme sports for all you artistic athletes out there. From the ever clever and most popular Marc Jacobs comes a collection of skate decks for his Marc by Marc Jacobs Brand. Available at select Marc Jacobs retailers nationwide, these one of a kind decks will only cost you an impressive $89. Check the pics here.
On the flipside, we still rock those fresh new interviews…
*The Clipse: Product Placement
“I ain’t spent one rap dollar in three years, holla,” raps Pusha T on “Keys Open Doors” a stand out track from the Clipse’s 2006 release, Hell Hath No Fury. Pusha T’s pockets, as well as those of his partner in rhyme and brother, Malice, were put on rap lock down due to label issues following the release of their break through project Lord Willin’, released in 2002. The famous label mess produced two angry emcees, a popular mixtape series (I Got It For Cheap), and grew the Clipse a cult-like following of dedicated fans that stood by the duo even when record labels and politics thwarted the release of new music. Rock The Bells did an encore performance in Chicago after the final tour stop. Slaughter House, Slum Village, Pete Rock, Supernatural, and Reflection Eternal were the featured performers. Catch the pics here – http://bit.ly/11fp0w
As levelheaded as they come Tough Junkie (or TJ as he’s sometimes referred to) is the type of artist that channels his creativity through a wealthy array of blue-collar insights, and if anything his classic flow is a reminder of why I fell in love with Hip-Hop in the first place. He’s released a whopping forty-three albums before releasing his critically acclaimed album Grab What You Can under the Colemine imprint, and he seems primed to make this his break-out year. RH caught up with TJ for a First Look spotlight, and we were able to gain some insight on his early development as an artist and how the underground isn’t a safety zone anymore.
