A new trailer for Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi, has been released. Reeves plays the primary antagonistic role of a businessman obsessed with martial arts. When he comes across a Tai Chi practitioner (Tiger Chen), he does everything in his power to corrupt and exploit him. Of course, given the art and culture of Tai Chi, the internal/moral struggle will probably be one of the more central conflicts in the film.
As I mentioned previously, Man of Tai Chi will feature over 40 minutes of fight scenes, some of which are primarily featured in the trailer. My admiration of Reeves has waned over the years, and with this film being his directorial debut, it’ll be interesting to see how name recognition will help carry the film. With 47 Ronin also releasing this year, Reeves runs the risk of oversaturation.
Man of Tai Chi will be available on VOD September 27th followed by a theatrical release on November 1st.
