I love the Alamo Drafthouse. I’ve written about how amazing and different the experience is watching a film at a Drafthouse as opposed to a normal theater before, but a few sentences don’t do it any justice. In recent years, the franchise has expanded outside of Texas, bringing the Drafthouse joy to New York, Colorado, Missouri, and Virgnia with more planned across the country. Of course, Chicago continues to be shafted, but I still hold out hope that one will come to us in due time.

However, plans to open a Drafthouse in New York’s Upper West Side have gone by the wayside. While a proposal was made last year, the company has decided to abandon plans to open the UWS New York location due to the rise in construction costs. A Yonkers location opened in August, and plans are still a go for a Brooklyn location, so New York isn’t getting completely screwed over. If this means a push towards building a Chicago Drafthouse, New York can be screwed over as much as it needs to.
