The BET Hip Hop Awards were filmed over the weekend in Atlanta, GA. While the show is not set to air until the 27th of this month, some of the winners and happenings at the Awards show have made the news. Perhaps the biggest story was T.I.’s jailhouse victory for album of the year as well as collaboration of the year (Paper Trail and “Live Your Life” respectively). T.I.’s letter from prison was read by his girlfriend Tameka, while Busta Rhymes accepted the DJ of The Year Award for DJ AM, R.I.P. Other winners include Jay-Z, who picked up the MVP award, while Drake snagged Rookie of The Year. Ice Cube was honored at the award show for his career achievements, he was given the I Am Hip Hop Icon Award. Kanye West, who garnered 9 nominations, chose to “sit this one out”.
