[Video] Chance the Rapper Live at SOB's (6/20/2013)
Chance the Rapper, arguably one of the hottest young rappers in the game right now, has been touring the country in support of his latest project, Acid Rap. At his headlining show at New York's legendary SOB's, the people over at Good*Fella Media shot a small video recap of Chance's set last night. Featuring a medley of "Pusha Man," "Favorite Song," "Juice," "Fuck You Tahm Bout," and a special cameo appearance by Travie McCoy.
It looks like the Chicagoan rapper is having loads of fun on the tour, and more importantly, the crowds are responding positively to him. His next block of tour dates are with Mac Miller, so be sure to let him hit you with that Zan dance when he comes to your city.

Rumor: Dwayne Johnson might lay the smackdown on Terminator 5
With the original Terminator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, returning for Terminator 5, excitement was already high for the popular sci-fi franchise. However, rumors have begun to swirl that the upcoming sequel just might be getting even bigger. According to a few of the WWE Examiner's sources, a script is being produced specifically with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in mind for a role. While nothing has been confirmed, as words from anonymous sources should always be taken with a grain of salt, an action blockbuster pairing Schwarzenegger and Johnson together would practically print money. Terminator 5 could function as a passing of the torch as Johnson has proven his ability to both revive and drive floundering franchises (re: G.I. Joe and Fast & Furious).
Furthermore, a few potential plot details have leaked out that could counter my worries about Schwarzenegger playing a Terminator. The aforementioned source claims the new plot takes place during the 40s and 50s with Schwarzenegger's character playing a savior character of sorts with some connection to the Connor family. It's his character's bravado and heroism that the future Skynet models their Terminator line after. Theoretically, Schwarzenegger would be playing a Terminator in the sense that his character would be the precursor for the killing machines.
There's still plenty of time before production begins on Terminator 5, and while all of this is just rumors and speculation, it would be great for the franchise and movie audiences if The Rock does join the film. Imagine The Rock and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a fist fight. Oh man...

WHITE-OWL: "WAX TRAP VOL. 5 (TRAPPED IN AMSTERDAM 2003 FLASHBACK EDITION)"
#100Trill member WHITE-OWL recently dropped the next mix in his Wax Trap series, "WAX TRAP VOL. 5 (TRAPPED IN AMSTERDAM 2003 FLASHBACK EDITION)." This new volume features remixes and songs by Team Bayside High, Flosstradamus, Kanye West, Chief Keef, James Brown, and more. If there's one thing to say about WHITE-OWL, it's his insistence on mixing together as many artists from varying genres as possible.
If "WAX TRAP VOL. 5 (TRAPPED IN AMSTERDAM 2003 FLASHBACK EDITION)" got you in the mood, you can catch WHITE-OWL tomorrow, June 20th, at Rehab's The Reyka Summer Solstice at Debonair with Team Bayside High, PHNM, Hiroki, Matt Roan, and a DJ set by Ghosthouse. Information on that event is here.
[RH Photos] Spring Awakening Day 3
Sunday signaled the end of this year's Spring Awakening. Taking the stage to close out the weekend full of beats, babes, and booties were Krewella, Trentino, Porter Robinson, the Porn and Chicken crew, headliner Calvin Harris, and scores of others. Chicago Bulls guard/forward Jimmy Butler was also in attendance to introduce Krewella to the stage. Joining me on Sunday was also Chicago hip hop music video extraordinaire and my LOD compatriot, Bryan "FragDFilms" Lamb. It was sweaty, it was loud, and it was fun; thanks to everybody that allowed us to take their photos over the weekend, thanks to React Presents for putting together a great lineup of artists, and thanks to Chicago for not raining that much this weekend.
Some of my photos from Spring Awakening Day 3 are below, while the rest of the day's photos can be found here. Photos are © Geoff Henao (final four photos are © Alex Lapenia).
[Trailer] Drinking Buddies
http://youtu.be/wxuxkQF7Bak
Drinking Buddies was one of my favorite films as this year's SXSW. Written and directed by Joe Swanberg (V/H/S), the comedy is about two co-workers, played by Olivia Wilde and Jake M. Johnson, with a questionable friendship that borders on a flirtatious relationship. When they go on a weekend trip with their respective significant others (played by Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston), the bonds between the couples get entangled and complicated.
What isn't made apparent in this trailer is the fact that Drinking Buddies is set in Chicago; in fact, the brewery where Wilde's and Johnson's characters work at is none other than Revolution Brewing. I actually had the chance to interview Wilde, Johnson, Kendrick, Livingston, and Swanberg while I was out in Austin where we talked about how pivotal it was that the film take place in Chicago, beer, and everything else.
Trust me when I say Drinking Buddies is a great comedy. Hopefully audiences will come out and support it when it hits iTunes on July 25th and traditional theaters on August 23rd.
[Mixtape] Freddie Gibbs: "ESGN"
According to Freddie Gibbs, Evil Seeds Grow Naturally. With the album leaking almost two weeks early, Gibbs contained the situation by releasing ESGN in its entirety. The 18-track release features Gangsta Gibbs rapping over production by Cardo, Lifted, Tone Mason, and more, with features from G-Wiz, BJ the Chicago Kid, Problem, and more. Make sure you support Gibbs by purchasing the album on iTunes; you can also stream the album below.

Instagram announces Video on Instagram, drops mic in the process
Earlier this week, rumors spread that a new Instagram feature would be announced that would focus on new video functionality. Today, the rumors were confirmed that Instagram will incorporate a video service within the application. Available right now for both iPhones and Androids, the new Video on Instagram is very similar to the popular video sharing service, Vine, but with a few exclusive features.
Video on Instagram features 13 new filters exclusively for video (which resemble the typical Instagram filters, just rebranded under new names). The function also eclipses Vine's six-second capacity with 15 second clips. Also available is the ability to choose a cover photo from your video clips. Video on Instagram also allows users to "rewind" their clips in case a shot didn't come out properly, which further separates it from Vine. However, the biggest feature announced is what the company is calling "cinematic stabilization," which obviously helps stabilize shaky hands and scenes.
Videos will be featured on the Instagram news feed like normal, displaying the cover photo chosen, but with a little video camera in the corner to help distinguish it from typical Instagram photos. As I was telling Virgil a few moments ago, this could lead to shenanigans where users could use a false cover photo to hide video rambunctiousness. Prepare for the pranks! Again, Video in Instagram is available right now, so get those videos going.
