[Video] Daft Punk: "Lose Yourself to Dance" (Feat. Pharrell & Nile Rodgers)
At long last, the full video for Daft Punk's "Lose Yourself to Dance" off their funky, summer-inducing 2013 album, Random Access Memories. Pharrell and Nile Rodgers lend a hand on the glitter-infused, magical 80s carpet ride of a video. For his part, Rodgers looks to be channeling Rick James. An easy favorite off the iconic duo's latest album, the video for "Lose Yourself to Dance" is certainly on point.

[Video] "Devotion" A Tree Documentary by Closed Sessions
Closed Sessions has always made its name by blending hip-hop with documentary-style video. No one does it better than Andrew Zeiter, responsible for most of the original CS videos over the years. The Tree documentary was shot around Pitchfork Music Festival July 21-23 in Union Park in Chicago where Tree performed for the first time earlier this summer. Closed Sessions has always teamed up with talented local artists, collaborations with the Soul Trap innovator have been well done and the latest coming out of Soundscape Studios is no different. Check out the full video below.

Chance The Rapper lands on cover of Complex
How big will it get? The sky is certainly the limit for Chicago's own Chance The Rapper. The latest in the artist's whirlwind 2013 comes as he casually tours Europe with none other than Macklemore. Complex's David Drake hopped on the road with Chance, Pat and the gang as they toured the country earlier this summer with Mac Miller and crew, tagging along through several Midwest tour stops. As always, Drake does his thing and the ensuing alien-themed photo shoot is definitely worth a look. Check out the full feature over at Complex.
[Video] The Whoevers on WGCI Morning Riot
One of the biggest gripes artists have had with the Chicago market over the years has stemmed from getting local radio play. WGCI has done a lot lately to dispel that problem, hosting several Chicagoland artists on their Morning Riot show, including Chance The Rapper and Lili K. Most recently, The Whoevers visited Tony Sculfield in the studio September 10 and luckily had a video person with them to capture everything. Check out the video for yourself below.

[Sunday Coffee Sipper] Drugs are taking over the party in EDM
So it finally happened. Two weeks ago in New York, drugs finally interrupted the dance party.
As dance music has risen over the past decade, repackaged as "EDM," short for electric dance music, the genre has gained traction through festivals where underage girls act like hardened street workers and neon-clad bros vibe to DJ after DJ as if in a trance. Things came to a head a couple weeks ago when two festival-goers died as a result of drug use at Electric Zoo Music Festival on Randall's Island in New York. Both appear to be from "molly" (MDMA). The New York Post reported 20-year-old New Hampshire University student Olivia Rotondo told emergency workers that [she "took six hits of molly"] before collapsing due to seizure.
Rotondo's death, along with the overdose death of fellow festival-goer Jeffrey Russ and several hospitalizations, shut the festival down before it reached day 3. Festival organizer, Made Event, is offering refunds to ticketholders for the third day.
To be sure, it was negligence at it's finest, but it gave MDMA a face, a public victim. It wasn't the first overdose of "molly," but it underscored a growing trend not only in the EDM world, but in festival culture at large.
In the 90s, as promoters fell off by the dozens, as did the fest culture. Today, you'd be hard-pressed to be able to put a number on the various festivals that seem to pop up almost daily across the country.
Festivals have become refuge, a lawless oasis in an over-policed world and EDM is largely pimped out as it's marquee event. There is a separation of cultures. As in any genre, there are those that truly embody the music without the aid of drugs. There are always a few that cause problems for many and in this case, the blame falls on the victims unfortunately.
Drugs and dance music are not a new revelation. Cocaine was rampant during disco and house music in the 70s and 80s and ecstasy was a staple of the 90s-era raves. The difference today is the culture within which molly, MDMA, ecstasy is used. We live in an instant-gratification society in which patience is a forgotten ideal. It's a generation that has grown up with high speed internet, touch screen cell phones and downloads at their fingertips. They've never had to wait, perhaps why someone like Rotondo would scarf down six hits of the stuff.
Next week is Nocturnal Wonderland in San Bernadino, the annual end of festival season.
Issues aside, the party will still go on.
[RH First Glance] Jay Dot Rain: "Drive Me Crazy" (Ft. Lamar Cole)
"Drive Me Crazy" is the latest from 23-year-old Alabama hip-hop artist Jay Dot Rain. The song premiered last week on Complex, a testament to his reach. The beat, produced by BlockBeattaz, is wholly instrumental with and A$AP-esque hook. For his part, Jay Dot hovers somewhere between Lord Flacko and Drake as far as sound, albeit with an extra lyrical flair. And he's not afraid to sprinkle some auto-tune on it. The track is the first single off Jay Dot's upcoming release, Memoirs of a Dreamer. For now, check out the song below and pick up his previous mixtape, CooleyFLY Chronicle.
