2014 Golden Globes Reactions

american hustle group pic

The conclusion of the year brings with it the beginning of the awards season in which many films are recognized for their endeavors. The 71st Golden Globes, held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 and hosted once again by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, revealed the victors for each of their many categories covering both film and television. However, focusing on the film aspect of this huge awards ceremony, 2013 definitely has produced a vast array of movies that all could be worthy of an award. Not all get the opportunity to bring home a much deserved trophy, though. Those who win seemed to be what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association viewed as the most notable for receiving an honor, and for the most part I failed to disagree with most of their decisions. In this article, you will find my reaction to most of the highly anticipated category recipients, and hopefully it will help justify the victories of each.

Coachella 2014 Line Up Announced

The day that many music festival fans have all been waiting for is finally here: the revealing of the 2014 Coachella line up. Headlining this year’s highly anticipated two weekend festival in April will be Muse, Arcade Fire, and a reunited OutKast, followed by a line up filled with much variety and amazing talent. Revolt TV revealed OutKast’s reunion and plan to perform at Coachella late last year. Muse had been highly rumored due to strong hints from the band, but nothing was official.

However, there remains much to be anticipated from this exciting line up. Lorde, the youthful alternative act creating much Grammy buzz will be performing amongst the likes of many legends. The EDM scene will once again be a driving force as well with big name acts such as Skrillex and the recently popular Zedd, followed up by many other captivating, similar acts. Local Chicagoan and highly acclaimed artist Chance the Rapper will also get a piece of coveted performance time during the crazy dual weekend festivities. Receiving much critical acclaim from all over the country in the past year, one could only imagine a good turn out for his set.

Other performances will include the Replacements, Queens of the Stone Age, Beck, MGMT, Empire of the Sun, Ellie Goulding, HAIM, Pharrell Williams, Foster the People, Motörhead, Cage the Elephant, Fatboy Slim, A$AP Ferg, Grouplove, Bastille, Neutral Milk Hotel, Disclosure, Broken Bells, Capital Cities, CHVRCHES, John Newman, Flosstradamus, City and Colour, and many more.

2014 marks the third year in which Coachella will be divided between two weekends, with the first of the festivities being the weekend of April 11-13 and the second weekend being April 18-20. Festival passes will go on sale beginning this Friday, January 10, at 10 AM PST. While tickets will be available for both weekends, passes for week one will only be sold with a shuttle combination as opposed to the second weekend. More info regarding tickets, festival details, and a full line up can be found on Coachella’s website.

[Trailer] Labor Day

Romance seems to fill up cinema in almost every genre that exists. Anywhere from an action movie to a comedy can display people falling for one another. However, it seems to be in the category of drama where the lust for another person takes on challenges that seem almost impossible to overcome.

Labor Day, based on the novel by Joyce Maynard, is a tale just like that. Starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, the basis of the film takes off when a mother and son give a seemingly unnerving man a ride. Letting him stay in their care for awhile, the mother and son soon find out the truth about this mysterious man as the police go about the town searching for this ex-convict. In a bind as to what to do, the pair contemplates what their few options are for the future with this man.

The new film from Jason Reitman will be in theaters on January 31.
