Shawn Chyrstopher: "Catch Me If You Can"
Shawn Chrys is taking off and there are too many who could catch him if they wanted to. He's just dropped his first CDQ single off of his upcoming album, You and Only You. Shawn does his thing as remains lyrically on fire throughout with witty lines like:
"She said I love your mind, I said I love your brain/ But somehow I don't think we said the same thing."
The track it self sounds great and the beat fits Shawn Chyrstopher's sharp delivery almost too well. Cop the track below.
Kanye West: "Power" Remix ft. Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz
The wait was worth it.
Kanye said he'd be dropping this track a week ago when on the air with Angie Martinez. So we waited and waited...and waited. Friday and the rest of the weekend passed with no link. Kanye tweeted a pic of him and Swizz, implying the track was being touched up. At 1 am this morning he gave us the remixed track and it was immediately clear to me that that extra week was well spent.
The track is the epitome of a remix, being much bigger and better than the original. Jay-Z hops on board to make a brief appearance and Yeezy adds 2 "powerful" verses, not to mention the last one's use of an school sample. Download the song after the jump.
The Roots: "Wake Up Everybody" Video
The Roots unveil the music video for "Wake Up Everybody" from their upcoming album, Wake Up! The album releases on September 21 and as the title indicates the music will preach awareness and engagement in issues that we as a community face today. Watch the music video below.
The Five One: "Mandatory"
With such a broad range of influences incorporated into their music, finding the right words to describe The Five One can be difficult. One thing's for sure, these guys aren't afraid to defy the norm. Check out "Mandatory" to see what I mean. This track has been streaming on their site since they played it at SXSW in March and now it's finally mastered and ready for download. Get the track below.
J the S: "Another Round" ft. B.o.B. (J. Cardim Remix)
J. Cardim's remix is a banger. I had heard the original song a while back (like 2008 back) and I liked it but J. Cardim's remix gives the song a much edgier feel with all new instrumentals and a vicious bass. The remix seems to suit both rappers' deliveries better than the original. Download the track below.
Fabolous: "I Ain't In Love"
Everyone has been involved with someone who gives you doubts but for some reason you keep going back for more. You might find yourself thinking, "This is crazy." Fabolous has and many of you can likely relate to the little and sometimes big insecurities that you have had or currently have with that someone. Look below to get a track for the indecisive.
Smoke DZA: "Continental Kush Breakfast" ft. Den10 Video
The beginning of the music video cracks me up. The video is a simple but fitting and mellow tribute to the wake and bake. It features smoking, smoking, and some more smoking. Watch the video below.
Von Pea: "The Yorker"
The lone Brooklyn member of Tanya Morgan is coming out with a solo LP entitled, Pea's Gotta Have It. This track is the first leak from that album and it's pretty solid. The album's due to drop September 7th. Download the track below.
