Bansky Jungle Book

The above painting comes from the world’s most famous street artist, none other than Banksy.  The painting was commissioned by Greenpeace in 2001, in an effort to showcase and stop the harmful effects of deforestation.  Greenpeace originally intended to launch a campaign around the piece and reprint it on postcards, tees, posters, but uh, Disney didn’t like seeing their Jungle Book characters tied and bound and they put the kibosh on it.  The painting went to auction via Bonhams, and netted £78,000.  That was the only piece Banksy sold in the auction that included pieces by Shepard Fairey, Jamie Ame, Blek Le Rat and others.  To see the full lot of what was sold visit Bonhams’ auction site.
