With every major comic book convention or film festival, it’s almost clockwork for Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead) to talk about the plans for an Army of Darkness sequel. At this week’s Wizard World Nashville Comic Con, Campbell added more fuel to the rumormongering while talking to the audience. When asked straight up about the potential sequel, Campbell replied:
I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I use to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.
This mirrors some of the comments he made to me personally when I interviewed him at SXSW in March. During that interview, he and Evil Dead producer Robert Tapert said, “Sam’s been talking about it. Rob and I are like, ‘Show us a script.’ […] If we did another, Army of Darkness 2, which is really what it would be, it wouldn’t be Evil Dead 4 because Army of Darkness changed its name a bit. So really, it would be Army of Darkness 2.”
This is a bit of non-news, since Evil Dead and Army of Darkness fans have been teased about a sequel for years, it’s just that Campbell is more open to talking about the film now. Before any confirmation can be made in terms of a script or studio, everything said about the film should be taken with a grain of salt. With that said, the likelihood of another Army of Darkness is becoming more and more realistic with every interview.
