[Trailer 2] Prisoners

http://youtu.be/9ESqBM9tG44

The second trailer for Prisoners has recently been released. Much like the initial trailer that came out late last month, the latest trailer is very heavy on the exposition. However, it adds a few extra wrinkles to what has already been shown. I still feel like the combination of the two aren't hiding enough for audiences to genuinely feel surprised when the film is actually released. However, as is the goal for every trailer, I have found myself hooked even more into what Prisoners has to offer.

For those who don't remember, the Denis Villeneuve-directed thriller stars Hugh Jackman and Terrence Howard as two parents whose young daughters have mysteriously disappeared, Jake Gyllenhaal as the detective assigned to the case, and Paul Dano as the main suspect for the crime. The cinematography is on point, the tone is very thrilling and up-tempo, and the cast is full of very talented, award-winning actors. I just hope and pray not too much will be revealed before Prisoners breaks into theaters on September 20th.

New Terminator film will be a reboot, scheduled for June 2015 release

When word spread that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be returning to the Terminator franchise with the series' next installment, a revitalizing light was cast on the future of Terminator films now that its main star was back to reclaim what is rightfully his. However, confusion arose when Schwarzenegger claimed to be returning as one of the titular Terminators, a role that might be a bit far-fetched, considering his advanced age.

Then, it turned out that the producers were drafting a script meant to attract the Hollywood phoenix himself, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, to the film. With the rumor came a few unconfirmed reports about the film taking place in the past, serving as a sequel of sorts. However, the next Terminator film has been confirmed for a June 26, 2015 release date and will serve as a reboot for the franchise.

With screenplay writers Laeta Kalogridis (Night Watch) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) already attached to the film, all that's needed is a reliable director to step into the chair and guide the once de facto action/sci-fi franchise into the future for a new generation of Skynet rebels.

New images from Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic, Noah

Following Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky's next film was going to be his big-budget Hollywood debut with The Wolverine. However, with disputes over shooting and production between the director and the film's studio, Aronofsky bowed out, choosing to focus on developing a passion project of his based off of the Biblical figure, Noah. With Aronofsky's distinct artistic touch, Noah will analyze the character's psyche as he builds the Ark meant to ensure humanity survives a large flood... or so the story goes. Aronofsky and co-writer John Logan attempted to stay as true to the story as possible, but took some liberties, including rumored six-armed angels.

The first promotional images of the film were recently released that feature Russell Crowe (Gladiator) as the titular Noah, Jennifer Connelly (Requiem for a Dream) as his wife, Naameh, Anthony Hopkins (Beowulf) as Noah's grandfather, Methuselah, Emma Watson (Harry Potter) as Noah's adopted daughter, Ila, Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Ham, Noah's son, and Ray Winstone (The Departed) as Tubal-cain, Noah's rival.

I'm actually looking really forward to Noah. As a huge fan of Aronofsky (even The Fountain), I can't wait to see his spin on Noah's story. The film won't be released until March 2014 at the earliest, so it'll be awhile before any footage arises. In Aronofsky We Trust.

[Trailer] Escape Plan

"You hit like a vegetarian," Arnold Schwarzenegger tells Sylvester Stallone after Sly punches him in the stomach. If that doesn't sound hilarious to you, stop reading now.

Everybody else with us? Cool. Escape Plan is an action-thriller starring the two former action stars trapped in a futuristic high-tech prison. Stallone's character, Ray Breslin, is ironically the top engineer of the prison he is wrongly being held in. With the aid of Schwarzenegger's character, Swan Rottmayer, the two must find an "escape plan" from the prison... even if it was built with the whole premise of not allowing escapes.

Escape Plan will be hitting theaters on September 13th.

[Trailer] Hell Baby

[youtube id="sHsniaY2eSk" mode="normal" align="center"]

Fans of Comedy Central should remember Reno 911!, a parody of COPS set in Reno, Nevada. Running from 2003 to 2009, the heavily improvised comedy featured a number of comedians and comedy actors (with the majority of them spinning out of the short-lived sketch comedy show, The State) taking on outrageous crimes. Reno 911!: Miami was the film spin-off that showed that the TV series' brand of comedy could easily transition into the largely different format of films.

Two of the Reno 911! stars, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, have reunited to co-write, co-direct, and co-star in their upcoming independent horror-comedy, Hell Baby. Also starring Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine) and Leslie Bibb (Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), the film is about Corddry's and Bibb's characters as expectant parents that move into dilapidated haunted house in New Orleans with intentions of being fixed up and sold. However, the demons haunting the house possess Bibb's character, causing Garant's and Lennon's characters, two super Vatican exorcists, to come and expel the demons away.

Based off of the trailer below, it seems like Hell Baby is going for a few cheap laughs. While it's billed as a horror-comedy, I don't expect there to be much horror. However, knowing the duo's pedigree and style of comedy, there should be a solid amount of humor. Hell Baby will find life on Video on Demand first on July 25th, followed by a theatrical release on September 6th.

[Trailer] Willow Creek

Comedian Bobcat Goldthwait is expanding on his directing repertoire with the upcoming Willow Creek. Following his last film satire, God Bless AmericaWillow Creek is a found-footage horror film that follows a couple searching for Bigfoot in Willow Creek, California. Based off of this first trailer, the film is a departure from Goldthwait's previous films that were ripe with humor and satire.

Found-footage films have grown too long in the tooth, and this trailer for Willow Creek doesn't seem to show off anything too special to separate it from the rest of the group. However, it's only the first footage released of the film, so it's too early to determine how well the film looks. Still... eh. I wasn't a huge fan of God Bless America, and I don't really see Willow Creek doing much to change my preconceived notions of Goldthwait's directing.

Kanye West

Is The Jetsons film adaptation Kanye West's next project?

Back in January 2012, Yeezus himself tweeted about being named the "creative director" of a potential film adaptation of the popular Hanna-Barbera cartoon, The Jetsons. I personally thought the news would be great, since Kanye's style has always been aimed towards the future. After all, with such a liberal title as "creative director," Kanye wouldn't necessarily be involved as directly as, say... the film's actual director. Two screenwriters, Van Robichaux and Evan Susser, were hired to work on a script last year. Since then, not much else has been said about the film.

However, during press rounds for Yeezus, The Playlist caught an aside in a recent Kanye interview where he mentioned his continued attachment for the film. Producer Denise DiNovi quickly cleared up Kanye's role with the film, stating:

He’s not the creative director on the movie, but I loved his passion for 'The Jetsons.' He gets the whole thing about the future that never was. He sees us living on a precipice of technology – cameras in your eye, your mind as a remote control to fire lasers – and wonders how things are going to break, for good or for bad.

So what does this mean, exactly? Basically, it seems as if Kanye would help guide the style and tone of the film. With his attachment, he could also have control over the soundtrack; who knows, Kanye's next release could double as a soundtrack for The Jetsons? With his collaborations with Daft Punk over the years, as well as the robot duo's experience in Hollywood with the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, speculation can't help but brew for a Kanye X Daft Punk Jetsons soundtrack.

William Fichtner confirmed to play Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot

Michael Bay is definitely taking some liberties with the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action film reboot. While no roles have been confirmed, other than the voices of Leonardo (Pete Ploszek), Michelangelo (Noel Fisher), Donatello (Jeremy Howard), Raphael (Alan Ritchson), and Splinter (Danny Woodburn) , both Will Arnett (Arrested Development) and Megan Fox (Transformers) have been attached to the film. Earlier this week, it was reported that William Fichtner will be portraying the turtles' arch-nemesis, Shredder (Prison Break).

This is an interesting development as Shredder has traditionally been portrayed as a former Japanese samurai... ninja... bad guy. I'm all for changing up various elements when it comes to adaptations, especially when it comes to reboots for new generations. However, this casting choice might be a bit off. Michael Bay's name already carries a level of apprehension, the least of which involving the rumored script for the film that I may or may not have read through. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is at least a year away, so we can only hope that the final product will do the franchise justice.
