Dinah Washington

I’m not much of a video game player these days, but have seen all the commercials for Rock Star Games latest big drop, L.A. Noire.  The game takes place in 1940’s Los Angeles, and puts users in the middle of a crime drama as they travel throughout the city looking for clues.  The soundtrack to the game fits the times as well, taking classic cuts from some of the top artists of the era.  Verve Records, who has made a killing with their past meets present remix projects, has created a six-track remix EP featuring music from the era given a bump by contemporary producers like DJ Premier, Dave Sitek, Midnight Sun, and others.  Consequence of Sound released an track from the EP this morning, the Dave Sitek remix of Dinah Washington’s “Slick Chick”.  It’s very fresh, as Sitek keeps it gritty and old, underlying the track with boom-bapping drums and further extenuating the horns. Grab it below.
