Earlier this month, Chance The Rapper released his much anticipated mixtape #10Day. The response to the mixtape has been phenomenal, with many in Chicago calling it a classic first offering.  One of the mixtape’s stand out records is its first, “14,400 Minutes”, which serves as an intro track and really explains the concept for the rest of the project.  The song was produced by DJ Such N Such, an up and coming producer and DJ in the SaveMoney camp.  On June 8th, Such N Such will release his own mixtape, Yesterday Comes Tomorrow, which will be presented by RubyHornet.  To kick things off, we talked to Such N Such about “14,400 Minutes” and working with Chance. Here’s what he had to say.

“I’ve known Chance since he went to High School with me.  At first we really didn’t, talk but I told him I produced and eventually we got to working together ever since. At first the track was a cheesy spin on “Is You Is Or Is You Ain’t My Baby” by Dinah Washington, inspired by this girl I was talking to at the time. I had an idea of more stuff in it with hopes that I could get someone to sing over it, try giving it color with playing trumpet. What I gave Chance to check out was really just an idea.

I let him hear it for the first time when we were practicing at his crib for the SaveMoney show at Reggie’s that we had a while ago, and he was immediately in love with it and said it was gonna be the intro because it was “so sinister.” I didn’t really like it that much because it was so simple and needed more, but Chance just made it… just cold. From there it was the intro on the 10Day Tape, and I felt like I had really accomplished something major for the first time. I owe a lot of that to Chance and look up to him and the rest of SaveMoney.”
