Dismay spread across Evil Dead fans earlier this week when rumors came out that co-writer of the 2013 Evil Dead remake, Rodo Sayagues, said that a sequel to the remake wouldn’t be happening anymore. However, word has come out today that the statement was an unfortunate case of a translation error. Evil Dead director/co-writer Fede Alvarez has come out to say that the news was incorrect:

“Rodo meant we’re not actually making Evil Dead 2 right now because the priority is Sam [Raimi’s] Army of Darkness 2. But the plan of making a sequel to our Evil Dead is very much alive.”

The news further confirms that progress is very much real for Army of Darkness 2. It also bodes well for those that were fans of the remake interested in seeing what happens to Mia and her story. Considering that both Evil Dead 2013 and Army of Darkness are in similar, yet alternate universes, it’s easy to assume that each film will be treated separately a la Spider-Man and The Avengers. However, considering that the same people are behind both properties, there is potential for crossover.
