Despite receiving a spin-off/reboot in 2013, the original Evil Dead storyline has stayed a hot commodity for both fans and the original filmmakers alike. Bruce Campbell, Sam Rami, and Rob Tapert have been talking about continuing the narrative for years, but no concrete details have surfaced… until now. Campbell will return as Ash in the new Starz TV series, Ash vs. Evil Dead. The storyline will pick up right where Army of Darkness left off in 10 half-hour episodes. Raimi will direct the pilot (and possibly other episodes) with Tapert co-producing the series.

While the 2013 Evil Dead was surprisingly a lot better than expected, there was still hope that Campbell would reprise his role as Ash for years, especially driven by the 2013 film’s post-credits tease. And with the growth of the TV format as a viable medium for cinematic storytelling, Ash vs. Evil Dead should have no problem attracting both newcomers and long-existing fans of the series… so long as Starz treats the series well and puts it into a viable time slot (and perhaps away from AMC’s The Walking Dead, no less).
