Talk about unexpected impact. Gil Scott-Heron saw Hip Hoppers such as Mos Def and Nas get behind his single “N.Y. Is Killing Me”, off his 2010 release, I’m New Here. It was Scott-Heron’s first LP in 13 years. The album garnered critical praise as well as reference in the artist community, with remixes, and homemade videos popping up all over the place. You know you’re doing something right when the Jamie of the xx takes notice, and you find an unlikely remix partner. That’s the case for Scott-Heron who will see all of the I’m New Here get a facelift from Jamie of the xx. The result will be We’re New Here, which will be released on 2/21/11. “N.Y.
