Brooklyn’s Here We Go Magic will be in Chicago on May 9th for a show at Schuba’s. The band is fresh off a commanding performance at Coachella, and the release of 2010’s Pigeons. Their new one, The January EP, will released next month, and is preceded by “Hands In The Sky”. The new record is a lo-fi story hinting at thoughts of the afterlife, and adding tinge of spirituality to Here We Go Magic’s brand of “psychedelic folk music”. The EP’s 6 songs were recorded in 2010, just after the completion of Pigeons, in the very same upstate NY farmhouse. Here We Go Magic also have an inherent rhythm and melody in their music, making it accessible across genres. Stripped away some of the vocals and “Hands In The Sky” plays out like something from DJ Shadow, or even Apollo Brown. Listen below.
