Rhymefest: “Truth On You” featuring Twone Gabz
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/truth_on_you.mp3|width=180]Our favorite track off Rhymefest’s sophomore set, El Che, is “Truth On You” a scathing tell all featuring longtime collaborator Twone Gabz. They say the truth hurts, and here, it also sounds dope.
The Roots: “Dear God 2.0”
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/the_roots_dear_god_2.mp3|width=180]There’s not much more we can say about this song. We love it. You should love it to.
The Tallest Man On Earth: “Graceland”
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/tallest_man_on_earth_graceland_cover.mp3|width=180]Covering Paul Simon is not the easiest task, as he’s one of the best songwriters of the modern era. The Tallest Man on Earth does a lot of things right in making “Graceland” his own. Respect.
Kanye West: “Power”
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/kanye_west_power_final.mp3|width=180]A frenzy broke out when this new Kanye West track hit the web, and it does something similar when you drop it in a club.
Jovi Rockwell: Dilly Dally
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/jovi_rockwell_dilly_dally.mp3|width=180]Jovi Rockwell is one of our favorite RH First Look alums, and she’s back with a new project coming soon. Here’s “Dilly Dally” while we wait.
Esso: “Future So Bright”
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/esso_future_so_bright.mp3|width=180]This song really made me think a little longer about what I post on facebook and twitter, and a song that makes you think is always a plus in my book. Esso’s “Future So Bright” appears on his recently released mixtape, The Anti-Socialite.
Seu Jorge and Almaz: “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/everybody_loves_the_sunshine.mp3|width=180]Seu Jorge is a Brasilian singer who many may have also seen in films such as “The Life Aquatic” and “City of God”. Jorge teamed up with full band to create Jorge & Almaz, a new full length album being released July 27th on Now Again records. The LP features original music, as well as popular covers including “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”, which is below. The band will be touring this summer including an 8.3.10 stop in Chicago at The Congress Theater. Seu Jorge scooped up fellow Brazilian and famed Beastie Boys collaborator Mario C. to produce the LP, and from the looks of it, it looks to be pretty dope.
Donnis: “More Fire”
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/donnis_more_fire.mp3|width=180]More fire, less water… Donnis is turning the heat up this summer after releasing a mixtape two weeks ago and another fresh mix today. It only gets better.
Janelle Monae: “Tightrope” Wonda Mix featuring B.o.B. and Lupe Fiasco
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/janelle_monae_tightrope_remix_bob_lupe_fiasco.mp3|width=180]Janelle Monae can stand on her own, but it never hurts to stand with Lupe Fiasco and B.o.B. Check out the Wonda Mix of her jam “Tightrope”.
The Morning Benders: “Cold War” (Wall Paper Remix)
[audio: http://rubyhornet.com/media/rh/music/cold_war_wallpaper_remix.mp3|width=180]I said it before and I will say it again. The Morning Benders is a great name for a band, and this Wall Paper Remix is pretty damn fresh.
