ShowYouSuck rubyhornet feature

At 99% of Hip Hop shows, if someone yells “you suck” at a performing emcee, said emcee is going to be pretty pissed off.  Yet, for Chicago’s ShowYouSuck, nothing makes him happier.  While he is fairly new to Chicago’s Hip Hop scene, the rapper has amassed a large following thanks to a wild and crazy live set, and a catalog full of inside jokes, pop culture references, and very good life advice.  That catalog includes the popular motto, “homies help homies, hoes hate hoes.”

It’s a saying that is truly brought to life considering ShowYouSuck’s journey in and out of the music.  One peek into Show’s inner circle, and you will see it filled with friends-turned manager, hype-man, producer, DJ, video director, all of whom met ShowYouSuck when he was just making music for fun and no one knew he really rapped like that.

“That’s what I’m super stoked about,” ShowYouSuck tells me on a warm day at Code of Conduct, the tattoo shop where he works and formed the foundation of support for his music. “All the relationships I built with people are genuine relationships and people just helped me out off the strength.  For a good solid year, I was just Clinton. There wasn’t no Show or none of that shit.  It was cool.”

It’s only getting cooler for ShowYouSuck who has become an underground favorite in Chicago’s Hip Hop scene, and a performer that you do not what to follow.  After releasing two cult classics in One Man Pizza Party I & II, Show is putting the final touches on the trilogy’s third installment and preparing to send up stages across the country.  A couple weeks ago I sat down with ShowYouSuck for an in-depth interview about the last year of his life, the origins of “All Chill Everything”, and even his former life on the ill-fated Ill Entertainment.
